Idicel Pădure · Mureș County · Transylvania

Made in a village bears still call home

A scattered mountain settlement. Copper cauldrons over wood fires. Recipes no one wrote down because no one needed to.

The Beginning

Răzvan Idicel and the recipes that refused to die

Idicel Pădure is a scattered mountain village in Mureș County, deep in the Transylvanian hills where the Mureș river bends east and the forests are old enough to have names. The village has no traffic lights, no industry, and no reason to appear on a map — except that it makes extraordinary food.

Răzvan Idicel grew up watching his family cook preserves the way people here always have: over wood fires, in copper cauldrons that blacken at the base and fill the air with something between jam and smoke. The recipes were never written down. They lived in the motion of a wooden spoon, the colour of a particular fruit at the right moment, the sound the simmer makes when it's ready.

Rather than let that knowledge dissolve, Răzvan decided to formalise it — not into a factory, but into a brand. A name that would carry the village with it wherever a jar landed.

How It's Made

The wood-fired way, start to finish

Every product in our range follows the same discipline: no shortcuts, no industrial equipment, no flavour substitutes. The method is slower. The results are not comparable.

01
Hand-Harvesting
Wild blueberries, rosehips, and herbs are picked by hand from the forests and meadows surrounding the village. No orchards. No calendars. Fruit is harvested when it's ready.
02
Wood-Fired Cauldrons
Every preserve is cooked in traditional copper cauldrons over wood fires. The open flame creates a depth of caramelisation and smokiness that a thermostat-controlled factory cannot replicate.
03
Small-Batch Production
We produce in small batches by design. Each batch is tasted, not tested. If a batch doesn't meet the standard, it doesn't leave the village.
04
Hand-Labelled & Packed
Jars are sealed, labelled, and packed by the same local artisans who made the contents. The jar you open carries the fingerprints of one person, start to finish.

The Place

Idicel Pădure — a village worth naming a brand after

Idicel Pădure (lit. "little forest Idicel") sits in Mureș County at the edge of the Transylvanian plateau — a settlement of scattered farmsteads, woodsmoke, and deep forest. Bears forage in the hills above the village. The winters are long enough that summer fruit must be preserved to survive them.

That necessity created a culture of preservation that predates any brand. Every household in the village has a recipe for zacuscă, a method for wild blueberry jam, an opinion on how long the fire should burn. We didn't invent any of this. We just gave it an address.

Why We Exist

The mission

"A world where artisanal means something again. Where a jar of zacuscă carries the name of the village it came from."

The global food market is full of products that describe themselves as artisanal. Few of them are. We exist to demonstrate the difference — to give buyers, importers, and individual customers access to food that is genuinely made by one person, in one place, the way it has always been made.

Idicel Pădure is the first luxury preserve brand out of Eastern Europe built for the export market. Not because Eastern European food is not premium — it always has been — but because until now, no one bothered to tell that story in a language the world could hear.
